Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about operating, powering, and maintaining the CUT55 MP plasma cutter.

What air compressor do I need to run the CUT55 MP?

The CUT55 MP requires a minimum of 60 PSI and at least 4–5 CFM of clean, dry air.

We recommend a compressor rated at 90 PSI or higher with a tank of at least 20 gallons for sustained cutting.

Oil-free compressors are preferred. If your compressor has an oil-lubricated pump, install the included air filter to help prevent oil mist from reaching the torch, as contamination can significantly shorten consumable life.

How thick can it cut on 110V vs. 240V?
240V Clean cut: up to 18 mm / 11/16" Maximum severance: up to 26 mm / 1"
110V Clean cut: approximately 10 mm / 3/8" Maximum severance: approximately 14 mm / 9/16"

For shop work on steel thicker than 3/8", use 240V for better cut quality, full output, and reduced risk of overheating.

What does “Non-HF” mean, and why does it matter?

HF, or High Frequency, plasma cutters use a high-voltage spark to start the arc. This can generate electromagnetic interference that may affect computers, CNC controllers, vehicle ECUs, solar inverters, and other nearby electronics.

The CUT55 MP uses a Non-HF blow-back start. Air pressure retracts the electrode to initiate the arc without producing radio-frequency interference.

This makes it a safer choice for auto shops, garages, fabrication areas, and other environments containing sensitive electronics.

What consumables does it use?

The CUT55 MP uses IPT60 torch consumables, including electrodes, nozzles, swirl rings, and shields.

Important: IPT60 consumables are not compatible with the AG60 consumables used by the CUT55 Prolux and CUT55 Pro. Do not mix the two systems.

IPT60 consumables are designed to offer improved heat resistance and durability compared with the IPT40 series.

What do the PA and PT settings do?
PA
Pilot Arc Delay

Controls how long the pilot arc remains active before the main cutting arc transfers to the workpiece. It is adjustable from 2 to 10 seconds.

Use a longer delay when cutting rusty, painted, coated, or dirty metal so the pilot arc has more time to penetrate surface contamination.

PT
Post-Flow Time

Controls how long air continues flowing after the trigger is released. This cools the torch nozzle and electrode.

A setting of 1–3 seconds can help extend consumable life and reduce tip burn-back.

What is plasma gouging, and when would I use it?

Plasma gouging uses a wider nozzle and a different torch angle to remove metal rather than cut completely through it.

Common uses include:

  • Removing old welds before re-welding
  • Stripping damaged or rusted metal layers
  • Preparing joint edges and back-gouging
  • Carving grooves or channels into metal

It is faster than angle grinding, creates less dust, and gives you more control over the amount of material removed.

Select the gouging mode on the LED display and use compatible gouging consumables, which are sold separately.

Can I use it on a standard 110V household outlet?

Yes. The CUT55 MP is dual voltage and includes a 240V-to-120V power adapter.

On 110V, it should be connected to a standard 20-amp outlet. Cutting performance is reduced, with a maximum clean cut of approximately 3/8".

This is suitable for home garages and light repair work. For heavier or sustained cutting, use a 240V dryer or welder outlet to access the machine’s full 55A output.

Is it compatible with a CNC plasma table?

No. The CUT55 MP is designed for hand-held cutting only. It does not include a machine torch port or CNC trigger interface.

CNC use requires a plasma cutter with a machine-torch connection, trigger relay output, and a compatible straight machine torch.

How does the app work, and what can I control remotely?

Download the Arccaptain app from the App Store or Google Play, power on the CUT55 MP, and enable Bluetooth pairing from the machine’s settings menu.

Once connected, you can remotely:

  • Adjust cutting amperage
  • Set PA and PT delay times
  • Switch between 2T, 4T, rust-removal, and grid-cutting modes
  • Monitor real-time air-pressure status

The app is compatible with iOS 12 or later and Android 8.0 or later. Bluetooth range is approximately 30 feet in open-air conditions.

What does the warranty cover?

The CUT55 MP includes a 3-year warranty covering manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship.

If the unit fails because of an eligible manufacturing defect during the warranty period, the defective component or unit may be repaired or replaced according to the warranty terms.
